The word Swadhyaya comes from swa: self or soul and adhyaya means chapter, lesson, reading, lecture and implies the studying and reading of the scriptures, as well as the practice of studying the self to reveal the Self.
Swami Sivamurti Saraswati
Swadhyaya is self-analysis, getting to know who we are through observing our thoughts, emotions, attitudes, reactions, our intentions, speech, actions and behaviour. It requires continuous, conscious awareness of what one is thinking, feeling, saying and doing. We learn to observe and study ourselves in every situation.
In these sessions the students, using the practices of the Satyananda System of Yoga, are encouraged to move deeper into the exploration of the different components of the mind, and learn now to make the mind positive through the practice of swadhyaya.
